A teenager and man who died after a crash near Preston Docks have been named.
16-year-old Adam Bodi and Umar Mahmood, 18, died in hospital from injuries sustained in the crash in Chain Caul Way on Tuesday evening.
The pair, both from Broadgate, are due to be buried at Preston Cemetery on Friday by the Preston Muslim Burial Society.
In a statement the society said: “May Allah bless family with sabr Jameel during this difficult time.”
Adam attended Penwortham Priory Academy until recently and was a talented footballer.
Principal Matt Eastham released a tribute on behalf of the school.
He said: “Unfortunately and with great sadness, we were informed yesterday that our former pupil, Adam Bodi, who had just left Priory this year and received his GCSEs in the summer, passed away following an accident.
“We are of course, extremely upset to hear this news and the school sends its heartfelt condolences to all of Adam’s family and friends.
“Adam was an amazing pupil, of whom we have nothing but fantastic memories. He was popular, bright, confident and had a fantastic sense of humour alongside being a first-class footballer, who had been part of our football team here at Priory for 5 years.
“We know that the rest of his year group will be equally upset at losing one of their own.
“Adam was a fantastic young man, and he, his family and friends are very much in our thoughts and prayers.”
A former teacher of Adam’s has also released a tribute on Facebook to him, reports the Lancashire Post.
Before attending Priory then Adam was a pupil at St Stephens Primary School in Broadgate.
Adam passed away on Wednesday in hospital after being the back-seat passenger in the Audi Sport A3 which left the road in Chain Caul Way during Tuesday evening and hit a tree.
The car was driven by Umar who died from his injuries during Thursday morning. The school has released a tribute to Umar – as he had previously attended Priory.
A 17-year-old boy, the front-seat passenger, was also seriously injured and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Both Adam and Umar’s burials will take place at Preston Cemetery in Ribbleton at 3pm on Friday (13 September) in location three.
The Muslim Burial Society said: “Attendees are highly encouraged to walk or carshare to the cemetery and follow the instructions provided by the volunteers.”
Preston Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
Sergeant Paul McCurrie, of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit, said: “This was a collision with tragic circumstances.
“Two young people have died, and I wish to extend my sympathy to their families, loved ones and friends.
“We are investigating how the collision happened, and we continue to ask for anyone who witnessed it to contact us.”
