A teenager has died after a crash near Preston Docks during Tuesday evening.
Preston Police said the 16-year-old, from Preston, died in hospital after being injured in the crash when an Audi A3 Sport hit a tree in Chain Caul Way in Ashton-on-Ribble.
The boy was the back-seat passenger in the car was taken to hospital with the driver, an 18-year-old man, who remains in a critical condition in hospital with serious injuries. Police confirmed on Thursday morning the driver had sadly died from his injuries.
A front-seat passenger – a 17-year-old boy – was also taken to hospital and is now in a stable condition. He had been reported as being in a critical condition previously.
Sergeant Paul McCurrie, of Lancashire Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “A young life has been lost, and at what must be an incredibly distressing time for them, my thoughts go out to the family and loved ones of the teenager who sadly died.
“We’re continuing to investigate the collision, and my thoughts also remain with the injured people and their loved ones.
“We wanted to bring you this update today, but are also continuing to ask for any witnesses, or people with dashcam footage of the Chain Caul Way area to please get in contact.”
The road was shut overnight on Tuesday after the crash around 10.55pm between Leeward Road and Nile Close.
