Scott Mills announced the guest broadcasts live on BBC Radio 2’s Breakfast Show during Tuesday morning with Richie roaming around the BBC Radio 2 In The Park festival site at Moor Park and then hot-footing it to the hospital in Fulwood.
Stefanie Johnson, head of recruitment and volunteers at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, was talking to Scott on the show during Tuesday morning – saying they needed someone to step in.
The mystery DJ – now confirmed as Tony Blackburn – is doing a show from 2pm to 4pm and can be listened to live via the Preston Hospital radio link. For those inside the hospital then can listen on their handset by selecting option one.
Trust Chief Executive Silas Nicholls said: “The Hospital Radio volunteers provide a fantastic service, lifting the spirits of patients, families and staff, and it was great to host Richie Anderson and the legendary Tony Blackburn. To have them step in and assist with our shows was a nice surprise for all, ahead of what is set to be an exciting weekend for BBC Radio 2.”
Song requests can be sent in by emailing stefanie.johnson@lthtr.nhs.uk or communication@lthtr.nhs.uk by 12noon on Tuesday (3 September).
