A giant transformer has safely arrived at Penwortham power station in Howick Cross Lane.
The multi-tonne load was taken by police convoy from Preston Docks, down Strand Road and up Penwortham hill before making the tight turn to get down the lane to the National Grid site.
Video footage – from Lee Worthington – shows the squeeze to get the transformer’s support vehicle around the corner from Liverpool Road in Penwortham. Watch below or on our YouTube channel.
People turned out along the route the transformer took to see the sheer size and scale of it, and snap pictures and videos.
The transformer is needed as part of an upgrade of the Penwortham site to give it more capacity.
