Two kittens found dead on Leyland street after appalling violence

Two kittens suffered ‘horrific’ deaths that are believed to have been deliberate.

The RSPCA is investigating the death of two kittens who were found in Leyland this week.

The six-month-old cats were deceased, but still warm, when they were discovered by a member of the public lying near each other in the middle of Seven Stars Road in Leyland at about 8.45am on Tuesday (20 August). Both of them were covered in blood and had missing eyes and head injuries.

They were immediately taken to a local vet who then alerted the animal welfare charity.

X-rays showed the kittens had suffered severe blunt force trauma – consistent with being thrown against a wall – and had snapped necks and damaged skulls, the RSPCA said.

The vet said it was his opinion that the injuries had been caused deliberately and not as a result of the kittens having been involved in a road traffic accident or attacked by another animal.

People who live locally are being urged to check for potential CCTV and Ring doorbell footage.

RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Adam Wormwell, who has carried out enquiries in the local area said: “It seems someone has deliberately ended the lives of these two young kittens by inflicting the most appalling violence on them and we are appealing to anyone who saw what happened or has information that could help our investigation to come forward.

“Unfortunately neither kitten was microchipped, so we don’t know who they belonged to or where they might have come from. It’s a horrific incident which has greatly upset everyone involved, and I’d particularly like to thank the kind member of the public who found them and took what action they could.”

The sex of both of the kittens, one black and one brown, is unknown.
