Samantha the Hedgehog rescued by fire crews at Winckley Square

A hedgehog was rescued and placed with a charity after the combined efforts of the fire service, locals and a rescue centre.

An adult hedgehog was found trapped on Winckley Square on Monday afternoon (26 August) with crews from Lancashire Fire & Rescue Service called to free it.

The hedgehog, now named Samantha, would otherwise have been unable to free itself.

Sue Smith, who found the hedgehog, said: “The lovely guys from Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, Preston Red Watch, attended and with their usual expertise, soon had the poor little creature safe.

“Samantha is now with Mark & Kirsty at Preston Hedgehog & Bird Rescue for assessment before being released somewhere safer than Winckley Square.”
