Preston Docks closure as huge electrical transformer being delivered

A huge electrical transformer needed for a National Grid project is to be delivered to the city’s Docks.

Preston City Council says the Marina and Docks are closed to water-based vehicles from Wednesday 21 August through to Thursday 22 August (at high water). A time of between 12noon and 2pm has been given for its expected arrival.

The River Trader is heading into the Docks to deliver a large electrical transformer for the National Grid site at Penwortham.

The Docks are due to re-open on Friday 23 August if the movement of the transformer from water to land is successful.

Only the Swing Bridge will be closed, for a short period of time, when the River Trader is heading through the Docks. No other road closures are planned.

A large transformer was delivered to the city in May 2016 with people out watching as it was winched from the Trader onto the Docks.
