A new mini wetland is due to be created on the banks of the River Ribble when flood defences finish work in Penwortham.

The Environment Agency North West hopes to create ‘The Ribble Sidings’.

Taking in land near Margaret Road which is currently used by contractors as a compound it will be stood down once work in Riverside Road is completed.

The majority of the work to create an embankment has being finished and the land will then be turned over to nature.

The Ribble Sidings is to have new trees, grasses, wildflowers and an orchard planted across its site.

A small playground is also being put in place as part of the new mini wetlands.
