Motorists heading to the north of Preston are experiencing long delays.
Lancashire Police have shut the M6 in both directions between Junction 33 (Garstang) and Junction 34 (Lancaster).
Update: Police have re-opened the M6 and made an arrest and police also blasted motorists for ‘very dangerous behaviour’ as families were seen out of their cars and walking across the carriageway during M6 closure
All traffic is stopped from Forton Services northbound and the southbound carriageway is empty.
Police say they are dealing with a ‘concern for welfare’.
The incident began around 2.30pm on Saturday (31 August) and involves a man on a bridge close to Junction 33.
An update from police shortly after 3pm said: “The M6 south is closed between Junction 34 and Junction 32.
“The northbound carriageway is closed within Junction 33 in an ‘up and over’ closure.
“There’s delays of an hour on the northbound approaching Junction 33.”
Delays of more than 30 minutes are reported southbound and large queues are back to Junction 32 (Broughton) on the M6 northbound with congestion then all the way back to Junction 30.
