Motorists are still experiencing long delays as police re-opened the M6 to the north of Preston.

It was shut for nearly two hours following a ‘concern for welfare’ call which saw a man on a bridge near Junction 33.

Lancashire Police say the motorway has now re-opened and a 36-year-old Preston man has been arrested as part of an investigation into a stolen vehicle.

But congestion remains from Junction 32 on the M6 northbound at Broughton all the way up to Junction 35.

National Highways North West say the motorway southbound between Junction 34 for Lancaster and Junction 33 at Garstang has 45-minutes of delays due to a broken down vehicle.

Normal traffic conditions are not expected on the stretch of the M6 to the north of Preston until around 5.30pm on Saturday (31 August).

The A6, up through Barton and Garstang, has experienced heavy congestion during Saturday afternoon as motorists tried to find alternative routes.
