A team from Longridge Hall Care Home has completed a 25km challenge to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Eight people set off from Sedbergh in West Yorkshire at 9am on Saturday 3 August and completed the trek in just over eight hours.

With Help for Heroes being the care home’s charity of the year, the group has raised over £2,500 this year and more fundraising activities are planned.

The event featured 29 participants tackling a 1080m ascent, guided by RAW Adventures and Help for Heroes.

Mary Simmons, carer at Longridge Hall, said: “Completing the 25km hike in the Yorkshire Dales for Help for Heroes was an unforgettable experience.

“The camaraderie among our team and the support we received along the way kept us going, even when the trail got tough. Knowing that our efforts will make a difference for such a deserving cause made every step worthwhile.”

James Parkin, director of Sandstone Care Group which Longridge Hall is part of, expressed how proud he was of the team.

He said: “All of the Directors are incredibly proud of our hiking team for taking on such a significant challenge and raising funds for Help for Heroes. Partnering with this charity in 2024 is especially meaningful to us, as many of our residents are veterans or have family members currently serving in the Armed Forces.”
