A Goosnargh-based goat farming family has been awarded a Great Taste star for their first ice cream.

Matt and Nicola Green set up Rosy Goat Ice Cream just 23 months ago after discovering their youngest daughter, Rose, was intolerant to cow’s milk. From kitchen table to new on-farm dairy, the brand has now been named amongst the top food and drink producers globally this year, picking up a highly prized 1-star Great Taste award for its vanilla ice cream.

13,672 products were put through the competition’s rigorous blind judging process, with fewer than 4,000 being awarded a Great Taste 1-star, which means ‘food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour’.

Described as “pure white indulgence” Rosy Goat vanilla ice cream was a big hit with the Great Taste judges. They said of the product: “A silky-smooth texture releases a flavour rich with clean milk notes and plenty of vanilla. It shows great finesse to make such a clean tasting goats milk ice cream.”

Matt and Nicola do everything on site, from milking their own herd to churning in less than 24 hours.

Nicola said: “We are thrilled to have won a Great Taste award for our maiden recipe, vanilla. We have dreamt of this moment and are so proud to be adding the prestigious black and gold Great Taste badge of honour to our tubs! We started trialling our ice cream in the farmhouse kitchen just over two years ago, so to be where we are today is truly a dream come true.:

Matt added: “Being recognised with a Great Taste means so much to independent producers such as myself, as it makes all the hard work and determination worth it. Great Taste is the most recognised accolade for taste and quality in the food and drink industry, so it’s a huge moment for us!”
