Lancaster Environment Action and Protection (LEAP) have made it to the final in BBC Radio Lancashire’s ‘Make A Difference Awards,’ with winners announced next month (September).
LEAP, founded by Dr Shorna Pal is co-directed by Dr Kailash Parekh, MBE, who lives in Preston and was part of the Preston Climate Jury programme.
Other co-directors include Dr Richa Soni and Dr Gargi Das who are enthusiastic in engaging with communities to work towards countering climate change. They are all ‘very excited’ to have reached the final.

LEAP’s ‘Voices of Youth’ young team of volunteers have worked with St Stephen’s School in Preston during Diwali week to produce eco-friendly booklets, aiming to help families celebrate festivals sustainably.
The team also collaborated with schools to organise the LEAP Big Green Week, pleading to encourage children to make thoughtful and sustainable lifestyle choices.
Recently LEAP delivered the Environmental Assessment and Management training, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, for member organisations of the Hindu Forum of
Britain.
The training covered modules on Climate Change Awareness and Environmental Assessment and Management.

LEAP is conducting Science in fashion workshops which aim to encourage young people and their families to engage in a series of experiments on unwanted clothing and accessories.
They are in the process of organising the Big Bang Recycled Future Fashion Show with the support of different community partners including Lancaster and Morecambe Hindu Society, St. John’s Hospice, Lancaster Library and the Duchy of Lancaster.
