Preston Sea Cadets (T.S. Galloway), celebrated its 100th anniversary and unveiling of the first official Ship’s Badge on Armed Forces Day.

The Unit held a celebratory luncheon hosted by the Mayor of Preston, at the Mayor’s Parlour and Council Chambers. The attendees were told of the historic connection between Preston and the sea.

The Cadets were the first to see the new Ship’s Crest, at the grand unveiling of the unit’s new identity. The cadets were also gifted a brand-new unit polo shirt embroidered with the new unit badge.

Captain Neil Downing RD RN, Director of Operations of the Sea Cadet Corps, said: “It is a privilege to be here in Preston to present the new Ship’s Badge to T.S. Galloway, as I served on HMS Ribble some years ago”.

The second event of the day was the Celebration Black Tie Dinner and Charity Raffle held at Preston North End’s Invincibles Lounge. In attendance was Lancashire’s Deputy Lord Lieutenant Andrew Wilson MVO DL, the Mayor of Preston Cllr Philip Crowe, The Captain of the Sea Cadet Corps Captain N Downing RD RN, as well as former cadets, staff and members of the local military and veteran communities.

The events were sponsored by two local companies, Barkers Commercial Consultancy, showing their commitment and dedication to supporting local causes and David Wilson homes, who encourage support to charities through financial contributions and volunteering.

Preston Sea Cadets provides young people with access to life skills and opportunities in a friendly and safe atmosphere. As well as providing them with the opportunity to gain transferrable qualifications.

The funds raised at the dinner will be given to the Preston cadets, helping them to attend events and competitions, regionally, nationally and locally.
