What was dubbed the ‘blockade’ in one of the city’s main streets has begun to be removed.

Lancashire County Council has confirmed the work around the Peace Garden area of Friargate is nearing completion.

Pictures shared on social media during Saturday 13 July showed the temporary barriers running all the way across one end of Friargate near the new crossing.

Blog Preston visited the site during Tuesday (16 July) and the temporary barriers are starting to be removed as the new security barriers are installed.

Cabinet member for highways and transport at the county council, county councillor Rupert Swarbrick, told Blog Preston: “It’s been great to see people enjoying our new-look Peace Garden.

“We’re currently installing some safety bollards and have cordoned off the area to protect the public while we carry out this work.

“Once is complete we’ll open up this revitalised space for everyone to enjoy.

“I’d like to thank everyone for their patience while we work to make Preston city centre a more attractive destination.”
