Around 8.30pm the alarm was raised by Leyland Hedgehog Rescue in response to the hedgehog being spotted at the Docks.
A spokesperson said: “There is a poor hedgehog stuck on an island on Preston Docks with no way off until the tide comes in and drowns it. It is alive walking around. I am at a loss as deep mud all around.”
Concerned animal lovers went to go to the hogs aid with the fire service coming in to assist.
The hedgehog was rescued using an inflatable walkway.
A spokesperson for the fire service said crews were there for around 15 minutes.
The hedgehog was taken to the Leyland Hedgehog Rescue where it is now being cared for.
