Leyland Market’s ‘transformation’ has seen the demolition phase of the current market site completed.

A new market square and a range of townhouses and apartments are being built by the Preston based Bradly Group – a company specialising in demolition and asbestos removal.

The street will be re-imagined as a key green street and a key pedestrian route into the new market square with views to the United Reformed Church.

Charles Hadcock, Chairman of the Leyland Town Deal Board said: “This is just the start of a total transformation of Leyland, and I cannot wait to see the works progress.”

He continued, “It’s fantastic to see the added value we can give to the local community as a result of large developments such as this and there is much, much more to come as the project progresses.”

The council is committed to ensuring that the developments give back to the local communities and puts money back into the local supply chain.

Apprenticeships, work placements and training opportunities for local people have been created thanks to the refurb, as well as over £1,000 being donated to local training courses. Employees of Bradley Group are being payed a living wage and given access to well being programmes. Two ex-offenders were also employed, helping them to get back into the workforce.

Andy Hill, Director of Bradley Group said, “Having grown up in Leyland it’s been fantastic being part of this important project in my hometown.

“As a local company we understand the importance of supporting our community. Alongside the high-quality demolition service, we provided I’m thrilled we were able to contribute to the social value and economic growth of the area.”

The next stage of works is to refurbish Leyland Market, the current market is set to be relocated this year, the works will take place alongside the Quin Street Housing Development.
