There will no cricket on Moor Park this summer as a second wicket was vandalised.

Preston City Council said during Thursday evening the artificial pitches were severely damaged.

It follows damage to the other set of cricket wickets on Tuesday evening in Moor Park.

A spokesperson for the city council said: “Sadly the second cricket wicket on Moor Park was removed last night (20 June), in a very similar way to the first.

“Again, we have had to remove it from site due to safety concerns as it contains large nails.

“This means we no longer have cricket facilities on the park as it too will require extensive repairs at considerable cost to the council, therefore to city council tax payers.”

Cricket pitches on the park had been refurbished in recent years and to support the growth of the Preston Strikers Cricket Club who play there.

Anyone with information on the vandalism is asked to contact the city council’s parks department on parks@preston.gov.uk with any information and Preston Police have been informed.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help with covering the cost of replacement cricket pitches.
