A major city junction near Preston Docks is set for up to eight weeks of disruption.

Lancashire County Council is undertaking traffic light replacements at the Riversway and Pedders Lane crossroads in Ashton-on-Ribble.

The work is due to begin at the start of the school summer holidays and could last for two months.

It is the latest traffic light upgrade – following extensive works at the Sir Tom Finney Way – Watling Street Road junction in Fulwood.

A spokesperson for the county council said: “The existing traffic signal equipment is set to be refurbished at the junction of Riversway and Pedders Lane from 22 July, 2024.

“We carried out some maintenance work earlier in the year to keep the site operational until this refurbishment work could be scheduled.

“This investment will ensure the signals are reliable and cost less to maintain in the future.

“We’re grateful for people’s patience and are sorry for any short-term disruption. Every effort will be made to keep this to an absolute minimum. The start date was chosen so that we could carry out this work outside of school term time, when the roads are quieter.

“The work is estimated to take eight weeks but we always aim to finish this earlier if possible.”

The work is due to cost around £375,000 and the county council said they were ensuring the junction remained open at all times during the work.
