Investigation launched after controlled explosion in Fulwood

An investigation is underway after bomb disposal teams were forced to carry out a controlled explosion in Fulwood.

Police were called about midday today (18 June) after two grenade-like objects were found closed to an address near Watling Street Road.

Properties were evacuated while an assessment took place and police established a cordon.

The team carried out a successful controlled explosion of one of the objects, but the second had to be taken to a more remote location for detonation to take place.

The cordon has now been lifted an people can return to their homes – however, police have launched an investigation and are asking for information.

A spokesperson for police said: “Following assessment, the EOD team carried out a successful controlled explosion of one of the objects at the scene, with a second object removed to a second location and a further controlled explosion taking place.

“The cordon has now been lifted with homeowners returning to their properties.

“We understand the impact this incident has had on residents and want to thank them for their patience and understanding while emergency services helped bring the matter to a safe conclusion.”
