For a special edition of their monthly interfaith gatherings, Light Foundation, partnered with Forum for Peace-UK, invited faith and community leaders across Lancashire to an important event on the Freedom of Religion.
Representatives from different religious groups, local authorities, education and health care sectors came together for an important workshop based on the ‘The Marakesh Declaration’ – A document offering significant Muslim contributions to the discussion of Human rights.
Taking inspiration from the declaration, the Light Foundation explored what life is like in Preston and Lancashire. The challenges faith groups may face here, how to deal with some of those challenges and what could be done to make lives better.

The forum for peace – UK explained how the Marakesh Declaration could be used by faith leaders, policymakers and society to understand how Islam contributes to the peaceful flourishing of people and societies, through authentic Islamic sources.
The document was signed in 2016 by over 300 Muslim scholars, leaders and heads of states throughout the Muslim world. The Marrakesh Declaration document looks at relationships between people of different faiths, challenges intolerance, hatred and prejudice and lays down fundamental foundations for respect and understanding, helping people to live together in harmony.
The foundation hold free, monthly meetings on a range of different religion related topics.
