The investigation into a ‘viable explosive device’ in Fulwood does not involve counter-terrorism police, Blog Preston understands.

Almost 70 homes were evacuated and a cordon established after police received a call saying two suspicious devices had been found yesterday (18 June).

The incident caused some concern from residents and others in the area but people were allowed to return to their homes in the evening after two controlled explosions were carried out.

One of these took place at the scene of the discovery, while the other happened in a second location.

Police confirmed they are investigating but have now confirmed that their investigation does not include counter-terrorism police.

When explosive ordnance disposal teams are called, as they were in this instance, it usually involves the remnants of war that have been excavated by members of the public. Blog Preston understands that was not the case in this investigation.

Police continue to appeal for information.

If you saw anything unusual, or have any information which may assist police, please call 101 quoting log 0556 of June 18.
