Lancashire Police are asking drivers to avoid Leyland Way towards junction 28 on the M6.

The northbound entry slip road is closed.

They are dealing with a spillage on the carriageway which has made the surface ‘very slippy’.

The police say Lancashire County Council street cleaners are on their way.

A spokesperson for police said: “We’re currently at the scene of a road closure on Leyland Way, including the J28 northbound entry slip road, in Leyland.

“The road is closed due to a diesel spillage and we anticipate this will be closed for some time.

”We’ll provide an update once cleared and thank you in advance for your patience.”

A spokesperson for Lancashire County Council said: “Please be aware of current disruption to travel in the Leyland area.

“Turpin Green Lane/Leyland Way (B5256) is currently closed for motorists travelling towards M6 Junction 28, along with the on-slip road to the motorway, due to a diesel spillage.

“You can still exit the motorway at this junction and travel West on Leyland Way, however the right turn East towards Lancaster Lane is also closed.

“We and National Highways are currently carrying out emergency resurfacing work to repair the damage caused by the diesel, and we expect these roads to reopen later this evening.

“A signed diversion is in place. Sorry for the disruption and thanks for your patience.”

National Highways have also released a statement about the incident.

They said: “Resurfacing is underway but not expected to be completed until approximately 9pm.

“A lane is closed in the northbound exit slip road also.

“Expect delays through rush hour.”
