Seven good causes in the Catterall area have received funding from the Love From Anwyl initiative.

Run by Anwyl Homes, successful applicants to the £5,000 pot included included Catterall Village Hall and Garstang Scout and Guide HQ, while Catterall in Bloom received a grant to buy new planters and plants.

Catterall Kirkland and Catterall Primary was awarded funds towards the cost of an outdoor shelter; Catterall Gala Committee used its share to purchase gazebos and First Kirkland and Catterall Scouts will be able to purchase a storage cupboard for activity supplies.

The Matthew Hesmondhalgh Memorial at Cardiac Risk in the Young will use its grant towards the cost of heart screening for young people in the area.

Anwyl area sales manager Imogen Suffell said: “We were really touched by the breadth of good causes in Catterall that applied for support Love from Anwyl. It has certainly shone a light on the sense of community in the village and the surrounding area.”

Garstang in Bloom volunteer Annetta Parker added: “We meet every Tuesday and have already adopted several sites in the village where we garden, design new flowerbeds, install bee homes, bird and bat boxes and generally help make Catterall a lovely place in which to live.

“This is our 10th year together and we applied to Anwyl for help because we want to create some magic by transforming a couple of neglected flower beds on Stone Cross Gardens. We will use the funding from Anwyl to help make a wonderful space for the community and local wildlife.”

Catterall in Bloom is the current holder of the Royal Horticultural Society North West in Bloom competition’s Best Large Village in the North West, as well as Gold winners.

Love From Anwyl is a voluntary scheme attached to the new homes Anwyl is building on 8.5 acres of land just off the A6 in Catterall, close to Garstang and roughly halfway between Preston and Lancaster.
