St Catherine’s Hospice in Lostock Hall has been recognised for receiving ‘outstanding’ feedback from patients and families.

Their inpatient unit, Hospice at Home and the Clinical Nurse Specialist community teams have all achieved certificates of excellence for their consistent positive feedback.

The lymphoedema team has also been awarded a certificate of excellence from iWantGreatCare, an independent service recording patient and families’ experiences from a wide range of healthcare providers.

Lynn Kelly, chief executive at St Catherine’s, said: “We’re incredibly proud to have achieved Certificates of Excellence based on the first-hand experiences from those we care for.

“It’s great testament to our committed and compassionate doctors, nurses and nursing assistants who go above and beyond to provide person-centred care to patients, and emotional support to their families and loved ones.

“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our dedicated staff, and everyone who has taken the time to share their feedback, which really means the world to us.”

The hospice has also won the best Not for Profit award at Lancashire’s Red Rose Awards, in recognition of generating £4.25 million of their annual, £7.7 million running costs after NHS contribution to their services dropped from 33% to 25%.

Lynn added: “In effect, this means that we only get enough from the NHS to operate for three months of the year – from the specialist medical care provided by our clinical teams to the ongoing emotional and bereavement support offered to patients’ loved ones and the wider community.

“The 75% funded from our incredible supporters come from donations, remembrance campaigns like Yellow Ribbon dedications, our charity shops, The Mill café and The Mill Outside catering service, our weekly lottery, events like the Moonlight and Memories Walk, and sponsored challenges and fundraisers organised on our behalf.”

The hospice has its annual Moonlight and Memories Walk on 22 June and their Yellow Ribbon Day garden fete on 23 June, both on the grounds of St Catherine’s Park in Lostock Hall.

The charity provides specialist palliative and end-of-life care at the hospice in Lostock Hall and in people’s own homes across Central Lancashire as well as treating cancer and non-cancer lymphoedema from its onsite Woodside Clinic.
