South Ribble Police are ‘satisfied that no criminal offences took place’ after a man was filmed handing out Prime energy drinks to children in Higher Walton on 7 May.

A man was confronted by parents for handing out drinks to children playing in a park at King George V playing field on Higher Walton Road.

A video was shared on social media of one dad confronting the man, who was sitting in his car.

The man said he was ‘doing a nice thing’ as he had a deal on a box of the drinks.

Lancashire Police were called to the park but he had already left and they didn’t take the matter further, however, after seeing the report online by the Lancashire Post, the man contacted the police himself.

He was advised to stay away from the park and the local area.

A spokesperson for South Ribble Police said: “Following this incident, we carried out a thorough investigation into the matter and we are now satisfied that no criminal offences took place.

“We understand that this speculation has left people feeling concerned and we have had an increased policing presence in the area to reassure the local community that we take those concerns seriously.

“We would ask that people don’t engage in the spreading of unsubstantiated rumours or unhelpful speculation, particularly on social media, as it can lead to unnecessary upset and fear.”
