Preston Volunteers have announced a week of events celebrating the achievements of volunteers and organisations in Preston.

The events will run from 3 to 7 June, in line with National Volunteer Week 2024 which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Working with their partners at Preston City Council, Preston Volunteers have planned a large Volunteers Fair on Preston’s Flag Market, to a skill share event, where participants can learn a variety of quick skills from cooking, bike repairing and sewing and crafts.

A spokesperson for the group said: “The contribution of volunteers is often unseen and unrecognised by many, visible only through the incredible impact of their volunteering, so taking the time during Volunteers’ Week here in Preston to celebrate their efforts and all they contribute to our local communities, the voluntary sector and society as a whole has never been more important.”

The first event on 3 June will celebrate volunteers with a special service at Preston Town Hall alongside the Mayor, with small community groups specially invited.

On Tuesday the group will take over Preston Community Hub on Samuel Street from 5pm, to host a skill-sharing event.

On Wednesday 5 June the volunteers fair will hit the Flag Market, with over 20 different organisations in attendance.

Thursday will see a ‘walk and talk’ event in Winckley Square and on Friday a volunteer coordinator forum at the Town Hall will celebrate the work of volunteering leads.

Preston Volunteers help people find volunteering opportunities, with their mission to make volunteering in Preston ‘easy to access, fulfilling and life-changing for everyone’.
