A men’s mental health football team, based in Preston and Chorley, are looking for a new place to train during the Summer.

Old Knackers FC, known as ‘OKFC’, are a charity team which was founded in 2019, consisting of men who are recovering from mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, eating disorders and suicide survivors.

The club has found a love of football, despite their age, physicality or fitness and regularly raises money for local charities.

Running two-hour sessions weekly, and playing two monthly games – a ‘lifeline’ for many of their members – the group are looking for a grass venue to train on Tuesdays, 7pm-9pm until September.

Neil Procter, one of the founders of OKFC said: “Our lads rely on our sessions to vent, unwind their minds and be amongst lads going through the same things as them in everyday life.

“Without a pitch, we cannot function as a team.”

They are looking for a place in Preston or South Ribble, particularly somewhere away from large groups as some of the team are not confident running in public spaces.

The club have their own pop-up goals and move around the pitch so they do not damage the grass and give it a chance to regenerate for the Winter season.

The Knackers train at Preston College through winter and play their matches at Penwortham Priory, who have both been a ‘great support’ to the team.
