Outdoor trading on a Friday at the city’s market is to return for the first time since before the Covid lockdown.
Taking place under the Victorian canopy there are now enough traders available according to Preston City Council to reinstate Friday trading and make it viable.
This Friday (10 May) will be the first outdoor market trading day since early 2020 with stalls including books, flowers, plants and household goods.

Outdoor market trader since 1991, Pete Burns, said; “As a long-term trader at Preston’s Outdoor Market, I couldn’t be happier about the return of Friday trading. It’s not just about the extra day of business, it’s about reconnecting with our loyal customers and strengthening the sense of community that makes Preston Markets so unique.”
The trading hours are 8am to 3pm on Fridays, the same as Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Outdoor Market.
Cabinet member for resources and deputy leader of Preston City Council, councillor Martyn Rawlinson, said: “We are thrilled to bring back Friday trading to Preston’s Outdoor Market. This has been possible due to the dedication of our fantastic market traders and the continued support of those who choose to shop local and support small independent businesses, all contributing to the growth and prosperity of our city.
“Friday trading on the Outdoor Market will add to the vibrancy of the area, and will complement Animate entertainment complex, which is due to open in early 2025, and the Amounderness House business hub to follow.”
