Roadworks to Broughton’s bypass have been completed a week earlier than planned.
Lancashire County Council has apologised to motorists for confusion and extended journeys due to Broughton becoming inaccessible for a number of evenings this week.
Drivers were left having to go via Goosnargh and Woodplumpton to try and go up the A6 after an overnight closure of James Towers Way (Broughton Bypass) also saw the old Garstang Road through Broughton also shut – even though it had been listed as the diversion route and the southbound bus lane had been due to be suspended for the period.

This was on top of four-way temporary traffic lights at the junction with Garstang Road and Whittingham Lane in Broughton village being in place while the James Towers Way works were ongoing.
Asked about the confusion by Blog Preston, a spokesperson for the county council issued an apology and explained what took place.
They said: “The work which took place on James Towers Way on Wednesday 29 May in front of the bus gateway has now been completed.
“This was due to take place in the early hours of the morning on Thursday 30 May but the contractor carried out the work at 8pm on Wednesday 29 May – we’re sorry for any inconvenience that this caused.
“The work which has now been completed on James Towers Way is a treatment to preserve and extend the life of the existing surface until more extensive maintenance is needed. It was scheduled to be completed by Friday 7 June but we completed this early in the morning on May 31.”
