A 50-year-old woman died after falling from a bridge onto the M6.
The five-hour closure of the motorway was put in place from Junction 32 northbound on Tuesday 23 April.
Preston Police were called to reports of a woman falling from a bridge at Barnacre.
A police spokesperson told Blog Preston: “Emergency services attended and very sadly a 50-year-old woman was found on the carriageway.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are very much with her family and loved ones at this distressing time.
“No vehicle was involved in the incident.”
The motorway was shut from 3.25pm on Tuesday and reopened around 7.45pm.
Police say the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being passed to the coroner.
Anyone who witnessed the fall or who has dashcam footage is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 0869 of 23 April.
