A new ‘Singing Mamas’ has started in Leyland this week for new mums of babies aged 0-4 months old.
The group will run every week, from Central Lancashire Slings on Hough Lane, above The Pantry, aiming to improve mental well-being, especially in the perinatal period.
‘Singing Mamas’ is a non-profit organisation where women with and without children can come together to sing songs and lullabies, no experience is needed and everything is learnt by ear.

Emily Sharples, leader of the group said: “Group singing in this way has been scientifically proven to improve symptoms of postpartum depression and our groups are having a huge impact on the wellbeing of many women in the area.”
Also running in Chorley and Croston, ‘Singing Mamas’ is part of a wider network across the UK, with these groups being open to women of all ages, with or without children.
Emily added: “Each week I’m joined by many incredible women; they’ve all got different things going on in their lives – some have small babies or toddlers and some come solo seeking the sense of community that singing in this way brings. All are welcome!.
“And I feel this huge sense of pride watching them come together and create something so magical, gaining confidence and connecting with a part of themselves they may not have connected with in some time.
“Seeing babies and children play, make friends and sing the songs too – well that’s just the icing on the cake.”

Those joining can expect a gentle session learning lullabies, a hot drink and a home-baked cake, as well as a place to connect with other mums in their area.
The weekly sessions start on 15 April and run until 20 May, 1:15pm to 2:45pm. For more information, you can visit the ‘Singing Mamas Central Lancashire’ Facebook page.
