Pupils from an Ashton-on-Ribble primary school helped cut the ribbon on the city’s new supermarket.
Aldi at Port Way was opened during Thursday (25 April) morning with queues of shoppers at the ready.
Team GB silver medallist Josie Knight was joined by three pupils from Sacred Heart Primary School as they declared the new Aldi officially open.

Josie then joined the pupils for assembly during Thursday morning as part of the supermarket’s Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative.
The cycling star said: “I’ve had a fantastic time opening the new Aldi this morning. It was an honour to officially open the store and welcome customers inside for the first time.
“It was great to speak with the children at Sacred Heart Primary School about the importance of eating healthily and how it can be fun to plan and prepare meals as a family. Hopefully I’ve also managed to inspire the pupils to keep active and try different sports.”
The first 30 customers in the queue for the new Aldi received a free bag of fresh fruit and vegetables.
The new Aldi, which replaces the one at Corporation Street, has seen 40 jobs created or transferred to the site on the Trident retail park.
Store Manager Liam Morris said: “It’s been a wonderful morning here at the opening of Aldi Port Way. It was lovely to welcome our new customers into store, and I look forward to meeting more of the community in the coming weeks.
“I’m also thrilled that we’ve been able to support Sacred Heart Primary School through our partnership with Team GB.”
The new Aldi is open from 8am to 10pm on Monday to Saturday and then from 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
