A new fried chicken takeaway has been recommended for approval in Penwortham despite 114 objections made by members of the public.

Chesters Chicken will open at 55 Liverpool Road if plans are approved at South Ribble Borough Council’s planning committee on Thursday (25 April).

Of the objections, 14 came from what the planning report describes as ‘immediate neighbours’ to the business. Concerns include traffic, odours, noise and disturbance, the appearance of a proposed extraction system, and the alleged poor hygiene reputation of the business, which claims to have 1,200 active locations.

There were also concerns related to the extent of land ownership on the initial planning application, although amended plans have been submitted to rectify the issue.

The unit has previously been used as an estate agents, funeral offices and travel agents but has been vacant for over 12 months. The length of time the unit has been vacant was a contributing factor to the decision to recommend the plans for approval.

An odour control risk assessment was carried out an no objections were found. The report ahead of the decision this week also states that the plans being approved would not result in an overconcentration of takeaways in the area.

Chesters Chicken in Penwortham plans to open from 11am to 10pm each day. The plans relate to the ground floor of the building with a taxi booking office remaining above.

An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated Chesters Chicken in Penwortham was a third restaurant in a chain of Preston businesses linked with outlets on Moor Lane and in Ribbleton. We are happy to clarify that this is not the case and we apologise for the error.
