The city’s swing bridge at Preston Docks is closing for 10 days for maintenance work.
Usually the closure is for three days every six months for maintenance but Preston City Council says additional time is needed for the Ribble Steam Railway to undertake rail line works.
The Swing Bridge on Navigation Way in Riversway is shut from Monday (18 March) through to Thursday 28 March.

A spokesperson for the city council said: “We have a formal road closure order in place via Lancashire County Council for the duration of the works which prevents access by all vehicles and cycles
“A diversion route will be fully signed for the duration of the works
“Pedestrians will still be able to use the pedestrian walkways across the bridge, but there will be a short period for the concrete to be poured at the road/bridge, there will be no access for pedestrians, but this period will be kept to a minimum
“Thanks for your patience during this essential work.”
The Ribble Steam Railway Museum’s Spring Steam Gala on 23 and 24 March is due to go ahead as planned – with the bridge only being closed to vehicles during that time and trains able to run.
