Entries were judged by Councillor Freddie Bailey, Cabinet Member for Environment & Community Safety. He looked at creativity, use of colour, suitability and the ability to show reuse and recycling in the city.
Five schools participated with runners including Matilda and Joanna from Corpus Christi Catholic High School, who received certificates of recognition and a Waterstones gift voucher.
As the first-place winner, Danikah has been invited to the Council depot to see her design in person when the bin wagon arrives towards the end of spring. She will also receive an Amazon Fire HD Plus tablet, provided by vehicle manufacturer Faun Zoeller, and a Parker Pen provided by bin manufacturer Contenur.

Freddie Bailey said: “It was an honour and a pleasure to be part of judging these fantastic and creative artwork pieces by some very talented Preston students.
“I can’t wait to see the striking design when the vehicles roll out across the city, and I hope the students – and their families and schools – are very proud. It’s a wonderful achievement.”
The winning design will be on the new vehicles on their brown bin collection days.
