Preston’s new look Peace Garden is due to re-open this summer.
The Peace Garden, which sits next to Ringway on Friargate, has been put in after the major revamp of a section of Friargate by Lancashire County Council.
It will include new artwork commissioned from local artist Salina Somalya – designs of which you can see below.

Cabinet member for highways and transport, county councillor Rupert Swarbrick, said: “Work on the Peace Garden is progressing well, as we focus our efforts of what is the final piece in the transformation of Friargate North and Ringway.
“The planter in the Peace Garden has been constructed, ready to be filled with soil and landscaping over the coming days.
“The tarmac surfacing has been laid in preparation for the block paving along with the new artwork we’ve commissioned from local artist Salina Somalya.
“Over the coming days and weeks, the planting, LED strip lighting, block paving to go on top, etched paving, artwork and the cycle stand installation will be taking place.
“It’s really coming on and we cannot wait for people to enjoy this wonderful new space when it official open this summer.”
Salina Somalya’s peace poems and artwork will be etched into the concrete.
