A club spokesperson said: “Joe played an active role in keeping the club running smoothly and took great pride in maintaining our outdoor space. His planters by the main entrance and on the terrace area were resplendent!

“Joe was a fixture on match-days and always took the time to catch-up and share the craic. He was genuine, warm and welcoming to all, personifying what Hoppers is all about. He will be sorely missed.

“On behalf of all Hoppers’ members, supporters and staff, we send deepest sympathies to Karen, Tom, Katherine, Helen, Sarah, Rachel and all Joe’s extended family.”

Joe’s funeral will take place on Thursday 14 March at 12pm at Our Lady and St.Edward’s Church, 4 Marlborough Drive, Preston, PR2 9UE.

It has been asked that no flowers are brought to the funeral as Joe’s wishes were for any donations to be made to St Catherine’s Hospice in his memory.
