The speed bumps at the Capitol Centre have been confirmed as being “in line with industry standards” after receiving complaints – as work on ‘speed bump adjustments’ will close part of the retail park car park.
Multiple people have complained to Blog Preston about the severity of the speed bumps, with some claiming they have damaged cars.
However, it has now been confirmed that the size of the bumps are within regulations.

A spokesperson for Preston Capitol Centre told Blog Preston: “The safety of our colleagues and customers is our number one priority, and the traffic calming measures we have in place are designed to ensure this.
“All of the speed bumps are in line with industry standards and support a maximum speed limit of 5 mph, which all visitors must adhere to while driving in the centre car park.”
However, it has been a subject of discussion in Preston that the speed bumps seem larger than usual.
Ian Jaeger from Higher Walton said that despite the speed bumps being withing industry regulations, he still thinks they are “excessively harsh”.
He said: “Even if they do comply with the regulations, looking at the most recent google reviews of the capitol centre it looks as though I’m not the only one who thinks they are excessively harsh, for a site supposed to welcome shoppers to the centre I find they act as a deterrent to visiting.
“I wouldn’t like to be a retailer on that site at the moment it was already riddled with bone shaking pot holes and now they’ve made it even worse.”

Despite the bumps being withing regulations, Nuffield Health have posted that the car park will be closed from 9pm on Wednesday (20 March) 6am the next morning due to ‘adjustment of the speed bumps’.
A Facebook post from the gym and health centre said: “In order to conduct essential maintenance works including the relining of the car park, filling of pot holes, adjustment of speed bumps and several other improvements the main car park will be closed from 9pm Wednesday 20th March until 6am Thursday 21st.
“Members are advised that if you wish to leave the club car park after 9pm then on arrival to please park in the overflow car park adjacent to Homesense as the main car park will be closed to entering and exiting from 9pm,
“It is anticipated that the car park will reopen 6am Thursday 21st March. We apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.”
