A bridal shop in Preston has launched their first prom dress collection.

Karen Riding Bridal Boutique based in Centenary Mill, New Hall Lane in Preston have introduced new prom and occasion wear dresses.

This follows the bridal shop being taken over by James and Susan Cruickshanks.

The couple took over the business at the beginning of March this year, when Susan saw a gap in the market, with the shop being predominately wedding dresses before the takeover.

Susan’s idea to expand the range came after she realised there are not many shops to buy prom, bridesmaid or flower girl dresses in the city, with most people having to travel elsewhere to find the perfect one.

After buying stock from a shop which was closing down in Birmingham, Susan launched the new expansion, named ‘Belle of the Ball Preston,’ last week.

A huge range of dresses are now on offer.

The dresses are described as “designer at an affordable price,” with prices ranging from £50 to £750 which is the highest price in the shop for a wedding dress.

Susan said: “We’re classed as the hidden gem because nobody knows we’re here. It’s only through word of mouth that people come to our shop.

“Many people are travelling to Manchester or Liverpool for dresses but what about those who can’t drive in Preston?

“We’re hoping that once people know we’re here, they’ll start shopping locally and coming to us, we’re affordable and you’re still getting the experience.”

There are also bridesmaids and flower girl dresses available.

Susan did not want her affordable prices to take away from the friendly and welcoming atmosphere in the shop, with each person being able to have their own, personal experience.

She said: “If you go to an exclusive bridal shop you get the really nice welcome, a glass of prosecco – we still do all of that.

“You’re just not paying over £1,000 for your dress.”
