Paul Foster, leader of South Ribble Borough Council and Martin Carlin, chair of Leyland Town Team are walking over 70 miles to raise money for Andy’s Man Club in Preston.

The pair are set to walk from Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria to Leyland to fundraise for the men’s mental health charity and to fund other community events throughout the year.

The walk is also one of the ways South Ribble and Borough Council will be marking its 50th birthday, having become a council in 1974.

Councillor Paul Foster said: “We signed up to this challenge in the hope to make a real impact for the incredible Andy’s Man Club and for the raft of much-loved local community events.

“I do hope that people can give what they can – however small – for the worthy causes.

“Now that it’s sunk in what we have signed up for, the excitement has started to set in and I cannot wait to start this important journey from Barrow-in-Furness, my hometown, and to be waved off by the Barrow Football Club who also are strong supporters of Andy’s Man Club, and they work they do to support men’s mental health.”

The walk will begin on Friday 23 February at 7am at Barrow Football Club and aims to finish at the Leyland Market Gates at 6pm the next day.

Martin Carlin said: “Paul and I spoke a while ago regarding a walk as it’s a big year for South Ribble and for the Town Team.

“The journey is going to be the toughest for sure, but for a worthwhile cause”.

Andy’s Man Club is a national charity supporting men with their mental health and eliminating the stigma.

You can donate or sponsor the walk via their GoFundMe page.
