Primary schools in Preston have been benefitting from the work of a local football charity.
Preston North End Community and Education Trust (PNECET) has been working in collaboration with the Premier League Charitable Fund to deliver the Premier League Primary Stars programme to local schools, with the aim of bringing the benefits of physical education and personal development to children.
Premier League Primary Starts uses the appeal of the Premier League and professional football clubs to inspire children to be active and develop important life skills. PNECET has worked with 30 primary schools in the area.

Beauden, a year one pupil from St Andrew’s Primary School in Ashton-on-Ribble, initially struggled with social situations and PE.
“Beauden’s self-esteem has grown tremendously since the sessions started,” said Scott Martland, Head Teacher at St Andrew’s.
“He’s become much more confident, and his progress in PE is huge. It’s so rewarding to see him smiling during PE now.”
Having an external coach come in to the school through PNECET also helped to give Beauden a fresh start. The coach’s positive reinforcement and tailored approach helped Beauden approach PE with newfound excitement rather than fear.
Beauden’s outlook on PE has changed and his achievements didn’t stop at school. Beauden’s newfound confidence earned him a special role as part of the guard of honour at a Preston North End home match.
“The sessions led by Preston North End Community and Education Trust have been motivating and inspiring for all the children involved, and Beauden’s story is a testament to their impact.” said Martland.
