Five-year-old Jenson Lewis has returned home for a few weeks after undergoing cancer treatment.
Jenson was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma after a tumour the size of a tomato was found in his brain last summer.
Since then his family have been sharing updates of his treatment and the GoFundMe fundraiser that was launched.
The latest update from Jenson’s parents Vicky and Simon explains that he finished his proton beam therapy at the end of January after 30 sessions undergoing general anaesthetic each day.
The update says: “I’ll be honest, it was difficult to watch him suffer in pain, horrendous vomiting and fatigue. But without this element of treatment, sadly the chances of survival drop drastically.
“The Christie where he has received his treatment are just amazing and made the whole experience that but more bearable. They really do think of every aspect and how to best support the family as a whole. Jenson even attended the on site school when he felt up to it.
“We are now all home together for a few weeks whilst he recovers and allows the proton to continue to work.
“He’s due an MRI early March to assess the situation and effectiveness of treatment to date, then the plan is to commence chemotherapy soon after that.”
It finishes with thanking the public for all of their support and donations.
The fundraiser is currently above £7,500 of the £10,000 goal after beating the initial £5,000 target.
Jenson, who was recently diagnosed as autistic, will have to face long-term effects of this treatment, including infertility and stunted growth.
He will require hormone therapy as he grows to combat the damaging effect of the radiation to his brain and spine which are expected to affect his cognition and processing abilities.
