Questions about the side streets off of Corporation Street and Friargate ahead of the new changes have been answered by Lancashire County Council.

The map for the new Preston road layout has been revealed as the bus gate is due to open later this year.

TheĀ Corporation StreetĀ stretch of bus-only road aims to increase bus reliability, reduce congestionĀ and encourage more people to use public transport.

A map has been released which shows how travel routes will be changed due to the new bus gate along with Friargateā€™s pedestrianisation.

Blog Preston approached Lancashire County Council asking the questions you wanted to know the answer to after we published the story.

These are the questions you asked about the side streets around the bus gate and Friargate and the response we’ve received:

  • Is Ladywell Street being made one-way between Marsh Lane and Heatley Street i.e. can only go south on it? We’ve seen a map that suggests the street is seeing a change to make it one-way ā€“ Ladywell Street isn’t being made one way. The arrow turning right onto Marsh Lane is just to indicate that there is no left turn for vehicles. (cycles can turn left).
  • What’s happening with Mount Pleasant and Bowran Street? Any changes? ā€“ No changes are being made to Mount Pleasant and Bowran Street.
  • What’s the rules around turning left from Heatley Street in Friargate? The map shows pedestrianisation on that stretch unless for deliveries. What enforcement will there be to stop cars driving down Friargate from Heatley Street?Ā ā€“ There won’t be any vehicle access to the public. Businesses will be able to gain access at limited times for deliveries.

No date has been given for when the bus gate will be introduced to Corporation Street other than ‘later this year’ and the county council say ‘finishing touches’ are being made to Friargate which is due to be fully finished in the coming weeks, nearly a year behind schedule.
