Temporary traffic lights are adding to already significant delays at a busy Ingol junction.

United Utilities began repair works on a leak at the junction of Tag Lane and Tanterton Hall Road during Monday (15 January).

Temporary lights have been put in place on top of existing traffic control measures due to the ongoing Cadent gas works which began in early January and have seen stretches of both Tag Lane and Tom Benson Way closed.

One motorist told Blog Preston it took them 50 minutes to do a usually five-minute journey on Tag Lane due to the current works by both United Utilities and Cadent and long delays were reported throughout Monday evening.

A spokesperson for Cadent told Blog Preston: “United Utilities have started some urgent, unplanned works close to where we have been working.

“While this is unfortunate, it can happen from time to time – given that lots of different utilities occupy the space underneath our roads.

“While we cannot stop our works now they are in progress, we’ll continue to review our traffic management, alongside UU and Lancashire County Council highways teams. If we can safely adapt anything, we will.”

A spokesperson for United Utilities confirmed to Blog Preston they had been on site since Monday trying to fix the leak.

They said: “Teams attended yesterday but further repairs are required. Traffic management is in place to allow our teams to complete the work safely. We apologise for any inconvenience caused whilst the repairs take place.”

On an update on Wednesday (17 January), United Utilities said the leak had been repaired and reinstatement works were now taking place with the aim of the temporary lights coming down during Thursday (18 January).

Last week it was reported how the northbound closure of Tag Lane at the junction with Tanterton Hall Road was leading to many ‘near misses’ between drivers.

The Cadent works are due to see Tom Benson Way closed for around five weeks from the start of January whole the Tag Lane closure is due to last until mid-May.
