A lorry blocking a key route through Preston this morning was expected to cause disruption for at least a couple of hours.

Police reported at around 8.30am this morning (January 17) that Deepdale Road was blocked in both directions due to a broken down HGV.

The incident happened close to Meadow Street and recovery is en-route. Disruption was expected and people were asked to find alternate routes. However, by 9.20am, police reported the vehicle had been moved and the incident resolved.

A spokesperson for police said initially: “Please can we advise you of a broken down HGV on Deepdale Road, Preston, near to Meadow Street which is blocking both directions.

“Recovery is en-route however we expect this to be disrupted for a couple of hours. Please find alternative routes this morning.”

A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice will remain in place for Preston until midday. A new warning for snow and ice will be in place for all of tomorrow (January 18).

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “A band of sleet and snow is likely to continue to push across this area and towards the southeast during the first part of Wednesday. This could bring 1-2 cm of snow over the hills in the region, with a small chance of around 5 cm falling in one or two upland areas.

“At lower elevations sleet or very wet snow is likely, but no settling of snow is expected. As this band of sleet and snow clears to the southeast, temperatures will fall below freezing leading to widespread ice developing.”
