Jodie Marie Rigby, 32, started fundraising last week, and beat her goal of raising £500 in only three days. The money raised will be spent on food and essentials to support the homeless in the Foxton Centre and teddy bears for children at Derian House.

She decided to do the fundraiser after a trip to Nepal, where she gifted items to the less fortunate in Khatmandu with the Global Youth Parliament.

The plan is to visit Derian House on Wednesday 20 December where Jodie will hand deliver the toys to children in the hospice.

She has also received support from local Preston businesses including Istanbul Supermarket on New Hall Lane, who has partnered with her. Jodie’s tins, long-lasting milk and cereal for The Foxton Centre will be bought here.

After posting to social media, boxes and bags of clothing have been donated from places which Jodie will take to the Foxton Centre. Matthew Taylor, the manager of 1842 Bar in Preston, is also helping out, donating clothing to the fundraiser, which Jodie spoke about at a networking event hosted by Downtown in Business on Wednesday 6 December.

Jodie said: “I donated teddies to the children in the streets of Katmandu, the smiles on their faces were priceless when receiving the gifts, so I decided to do something similar for local children in Preston this Christmas.

“I set my goal to raise £500 as I didn’t want to not hit my target, I ended up reaching the target in three days!

“If we hit £1000 it would be incredible and anything over £1000 is outstanding.“

The fundraiser is set for another week, until 15 December, with a donation of £8 going towards a Disney teddy bear. You can donate to the Just Giving page here.
