The M6 was closed in both directions for several hours overnight due to a police-led incident.

The nature of the incident has not been made clear but was reported by both Lancashire Police and National Highways: North West.

The motorway was closed between junction 30 and 31 at around 12.30am this morning (December 4) with police able to reopen the carriageway to traffic by around 3.30am.

A spokesperson for police said: “Earlier in the night we made you aware of a closure on the M6 in both directions between Junction 30 and 31 due to a police incident.

“We can now confirm the motorway has re-opened.”

Traffic does not appear to be affected by the incident this morning. There are some delays on the M6 near junction 32 that would be considered typical for a Monday morning.
