A section of the shared footpath and cycleway has reopened on Broadgate.
The stretch is part of the £54.7m Preston and South Ribble Flood Risk Management Scheme. A diversion remains in place for the stretch along Riverside to Miller Park.
Local history buffs have been pleased to see a boundary stone for the old port opposite the junction with Meath Road has been preserved.
According to information shared in the Preston History group, the port had to have clear boundaries for Customs purposes, and these were established in 1844.
This marker is for the eastern boundary (see EB inscribed on the front of the stone) of the legal quay (LQ on top).
While the western marker is no more, at the time ships could only legally unload between the two and paid import duties to customs.
