The Glees social club celebrates 50 years

The Glees social club has celebrated its 50 year anniversary.

The social club for those over 60 get together for trips, parties and other activities as an opportunity to make friends in older age or those who live alone.

The group was founded by a group of friends who attended the same church, starting with
six members and have grown ever since.

Anybody over 60 is welcome to go along and have a game of bingo, make new friends, and
break up a day that sometimes can be long.

The group can help those who are feeling isolated.

Pat Varty, who is in charge of the group, said: “The main aim of the group is for everyone to be one big, happy, extended family.

“We respect each other, make each other laugh and smile even on the gloomiest day.

“We love seeing our friends every week. It would be my dream to see a ‘Glees’ group in every Preston community.”
